After earning a BA in Art with a concentration in Art History, Karen enjoyed a museum career during which she wrote a local history book called Around Chadds Ford. Feeling an entrepreneurial call, she then ran a web and graphic design business for several years.
Finally, her need to create took over and she started making assemblage dolls, robots, and creatures and painting with mixed media. A few years ago, she discovered Spoonflower and began making patterns, which quickly became an obsession.
Spring Garden
For the Spring Garden collection, I was inspired by the soft colors to create florals, and some Easter designs with bunnies and carrots.

Retro Christmas
My favorite parts about participating in this collaboration were the fabulous colors; interacting with other designers and building community; and challenging myself to learn new techniques in my pattern making. I dove into the “retro” part of the Christmas theme and learned not only how to draw 1950’s style elements but also how to apply halftones and offsets to achieve a vintage look.
